The Hoover Dam is Completed
After 5 years of hard work, the Hoover Dam is completed.
The dam, a masterpiece of modern engineering, is 726 feet high, about 300 feet taller than any other dam built before.

Opening of the War Memorial Building
The War Memorial Building has been built, in honor of the war veterans, with the contribution of the City and of the American Legion.
The building has an auditorium, and the first convention facilities in Las Vegas, that will boost also this kind of business.

The ''Rome-Berlin Axis''
This is the name used by Mussolini to call the alliance, signed this year, between Nazist Germany and Fascist Italy. It comes after a period of hostility between Italy and Germany, about Austria.
Now Italy and Germany undertake themselves to support each other against Soviet Union and the League of Nations, and to have common international policies.
Japan will join the Axis next year.

The Spanish Civil War
The past two years have seen an escalation of fights between fascists (called falangists) and communists in Spain. Many nations, officially or unofficially, are sending arms and people to fight.
In July, after a leader of the monarchist party was assassinated, a team of generals led by Francisco Franco decide to take the power, with the external support of Germany and Italy.
In these years many intellectuals have been persecuted by the fascist regime. A famous case is that of the poet Federico Garcia Lorca, who has been arrested and then killed by the Falangists for his ideas.

The Great Purge
Stalin starts his plan to execute all Russian people suspected not to be enough loyal to him. During this years and the next two years, millions of people will be killed, most of them for mere suspects.
In show trials, people accused are forced to declare themselves guilty, and then are sentenced to death.

Jesse Owens shatters the myth of Aryan supremacy
At the Olympic Games in Berlin, the black American athlete Jesse Owens wins 4 gold medals.
Hitler, sure as he was of the superiority of his Aryan athletes, leaves the stadium for not congratulating with the winner.
