The Dedication of the Dam
On September 30 President Roosevelt dedicates the Dam, in front of about 20,000 people. The ceremony is broadcasted by radio in all States.

A vocation for Conventions
In November Las Vegas hosts its first large convention. About 5,000 south California shriners gather in Las Vegas, which means a great business for all hotels.

The Birth of Elvis Presley
Elvis Aaron Presley is born in Tupelo, Mississipi, on January 8.
During his life, Elvis Presley will often sing in Las Vegas, and will also interpret some movies on Las Vegas.

Nazism goes ahead
Hitler invades the Saar region, occupied by France after World War First. The League of Nations protests, but in pratice accepts the occupation as a fact.
In Germany, with the Nuremberg Laws, German Jews lose their civil rights. They cannot practice a profession, nor getting married with non-Jews.
Practically without any national or international opposition to it, anti-semitic ideology enters in the everyday life of Germany.

The colonial adventure of Fascism
Mussolini decides to invade Ethiopia, in Africa, with the aim of increasing the prestige of Italy among other nations, most of which have colonies.
Ethiopia is invaded easily, but France and United Kingdom fierily oppose to this act, and obtain that the League of Nations impose sanctions to Italy.

A farsighted eye
The first radar stations are constructed in England, to protect London from airplane attacks, coming from the North Sea.
The radar (short for ''radio detecting and ranging'') is based on echoing at radio wavelengths, and allows detection of objects also at night or in the fog.

A powerful weapon against bacteria
The German bacteriologist Gerhard Domagk discovers a substance, called Prontosil, that is very effective against streptococcal bacteria.
After some tests on mice, Domagk tests successfully the product on his daughter, that after a strong infection was in desperate conditions.
Domagk discovers what will be called ''sulfa'' drugs, and in 1947 he will receive the Nobel price for it.
